Formy graniczne | Elżbieta Gawlikowska-Łabęcka

26/9 – 9/10 2025

Międzynarodowe Centrum Sztuk Graficznych | Kraków | Polska

The exhibition presents a selection of recent works by Elżbieta Gawlikowska-Łabęcka, exploring the conceptual and visual structures that arise at the intersection of perception, space, and form. The artist focuses on the notion of boundary moments—points of transition where existing and potential realities converge. These moments, according to Gawlikowska-Łabęcka, generate a condition of relativity that challenges established formulations and opens the possibility for new visual structures to emerge.
Her statement, “The moment in which the sense of boundary transforms from limiting to transgressible determines the creation of a new form,” serves as a theoretical framework for the exhibition. The works operate within this space of transition, where perception and structure are redefined through the act of visual crossing.
Gawlikowska-Łabęcka’s artistic practice employs lenticular printmaking techniques, emphasizing the dynamic and multi-layered nature of visual experience. Her research integrates principles from visual studies, geometry, and spatial analysis, aligning artistic experimentation with scientific modes of inquiry.
Elżbieta Gawlikowska-Łabęcka (b. 1946, Pruszków, Poland) is Associate Professor at the University of Humanities and Economics in Łódź, where she teaches Visual Structures in the Department of Fine Arts. She is a member of the International Print Triennial Association in Kraków and recipient of the Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture “Gloria Artis.”
She studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Łódź (now the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts) between 1965 and 1971. Her work has been exhibited internationally in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, and the United States, with solo presentations at venues including the Gesellschaft für Kunst und Gestaltung in Bonn, the Presidential Gallery at Branicki Palace in Warsaw, the Europäisches Zentrum der Künste Hellerau in Dresden, and the Museum of Modern Art in Hünfeld.
Her works are held in collections such as the Mondriaanhuis Museum voor Constructieve en Concrete Kunst (Amersfoort), Museum of Modern Art (Hünfeld), Museo Civico Ala Ponzone (Cremona), Foundation for Constructive Art (Calgary), and the Municipal Art Gallery of Łódź, among others.
This exhibition situates Gawlikowska-Łabęcka’s ongoing inquiry into the relativity of form and perception within a broader discourse on the limits and transformations of visual structure.
