Intermedia artist. Also active in the field of painting, space organization, digital graphics and generative art. Mark Starel creates statistical images, inspired by databases or statistical messages, mainly on the social behavior of Poles. The starting point of his work is the assumption that contemporary reality is a statistical reality.
Author of the Statistical Art Manifesto. Since 2011, together with a group of European artists, he has been animating the international art movement Discursive Geometry, of which he is the originator. This idea includes geometric art in the current discourses, incl. social, language, science, or the art itself.

Mark Starel (aka prof. Wiesław Łuczaj) was born on November 26, 1960 in Bogatynia, Poland.

1975-80 Study at the State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Supraśl, Poland.
1980-85 Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Faculty of Graphics. Graduated with honors.
1985 Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and Art.
1986-92 Assistant in the Studio of Visual Structures, Faculty of Painting, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
1993 PhD in Art, Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
1993-95 Curator of the Aspekty Gallery in Warsaw.
1999 DSc in Art (dr hab.), Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
1999 Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
2001 Associate Professor at the Institute of Fine Arts, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.
2002 Creates the first Statistical Art Manifesto.
2002-2005 Director of the Institute of Fine Arts, Jan Kochanowski University, Kielce.
2008 Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis, awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
2008-2016 Director of the Institute of Fine Arts, Jan Kochanowski University, Kielce.
Since 2011, together with a group of European artists, he creates the international art movement “Discursive Geometry”, of which he is the originator.
2012 The title of Professor of Art awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland.
2013-2017 Member of the Council of the National Museum in Kielce, appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage; deputy chairman of the Council.
